DUI

A DUI offense is a serious matter and must be treated accordingly.  Since a DUI is the only criminal offense that uses subjective evidence for convictions (for example, roadside maneuvers and police officer testimony), it is essential to have qualified legal representation who understand the process of fighting a DUI charge.  If you are found guilty of a DUI or DWAI, you face the possibility of severe repercussions, including:

  • Loss of your license
  • Points on your license
  • Heavy fines
  • Higher insurance rates
  • Prison time
  • Misdemeanor or felony charges
  • An order for a vehicle ignition interlock device
  • Alcohol education classes
  • Community service
  • Loss of business
  • Loss of your commercial license

What is a DWAI?

Colorado is one of only two states in the United States where you can receive a lower-level drinking and driving offense called DWAI (Driving While Ability Impaired).  While a DWAI offense is not as damaging to your driving record as a DUI, it is still a criminal law matter and could appear on your criminal record.  If you have been charged with a DWAI, it is important you speak to a drunk-driving defense attorney as soon as possible.

Traffic

DUI violations carry fines anywhere from $300 to $1,500.  In Colorado, a DWAI offense is 8 points on your license and a DUI offense is 12 points.  You have 7 days from the date of your arrest to request a hearing from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

At Highlands Ranch Law Center P.C., our South Metro Denver attorneys perform a thorough and skillful evaluation of the charges and facts surrounding your case to defend you against criminal charges.  We are experienced criminal defense lawyers who will fight to reduce the charges you face from your DUI or DWAI offense.
